WHO ARE THE TEACHERS AND WHAT ARE THEIR CREDENTIALS?
@MaryJayne Waddell (MJ) and @Stephanie Leigh are your lead teachers. Guest teachers are @Erica Ebert, owner and founder of Balance Yoga and @Heidi Kroft, co-owner and teacher at Balance Yoga.
MaryJayne Waddell “MJ” – E-RYT500 and Creative Founder of SHARE YOGA My practice began in 1995 when one day in the gym I decided to take an “easy little stretch class” or so I thought! At the end of that class I walked out with such a feeling of peace and clarity. I knew I had found a new way to stay physically AND emotionally fit in mind, body, and spirit. I had to know more. With a professional career in musical theatre, yoga kept me flexible, balanced, and calm both onstage and off. Eleven years later my practice and need to know more, led me to YogaWorks, where I completed 200 hours of teacher training. In 2009 I completed 500 hours of therapeutic training at Golden Heart Yoga. Level 1 with Baron Baptiste was in 2011 along with trainings in Yin Yoga and as a Doula. 2013 was the beginning of my new Balance Yoga home in Webster, NY with founder, Erica Ebert. We met through yoga years before when we had both moved back to Rochester, NY. The collaborating and friendship has just grown stronger ever since. My yoga influences have been many. I’ve had the extraordinary gift of taking classes and trainings all over North America with some of the best teachers. The fascination and love for Yoga continues as I teach, train and learn from my students both privately and in group classes and now online. My classes are safe, challenging, humorous, and suitable for all levels. Some may say I kick their ass! I say I empower whatever part of their anatomy/spirit/ass needs it! Emphasis is on proper alignment and breath work and discovering how strong you are when body, mind and spirit work together. It is so fulfilling to experience and watch peoples lives changing....including mine! I am so excited to venture into the virtual on-line world along with superstar Stephanie Leigh, also a Rochesterian. We’ve got a fantastically fierce training in store! See you on your screen and mat!
Stephanie is a 200 hr RYT Instructor from upstate New York. She received her training at Kripalu School for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts in 2016. Along with her Yoga certifications, Stephanie is also a 100 hr Mat Pilates instructor and received her training from Body Conscious Pilates LLC in 2012.
Prior to her training, Stephanie practiced Yoga as a way to keep fit and flexible-initially only focused on its physical benefits. However, during her training she discovered the philosophical and spiritual side to Yoga and for her that helped change her life. Understanding how powerful it was for her, and how it can help off the mat, Stephanie wanted to make sure others were aware of it too. She makes sure to provide messaging in each one of her classes and weaves that theme throughout.
Stephanie's teaching style is a slower flow that implements motivational messaging, breath work, stretching, core work and sequencing. She often blends some of her Pilates practice in with her Yoga routine to create a unique style of fusion flow. Stephanie emphasizes proper form and alignment, and moving the body in a safe manner. She wants students to be able to understand and know their own body and what it needs. To Stephanie, Yoga isn't just an exercise, it's a lifestyle whether you're 18, or 80, and she wants to provide that to students so they can have a practice they can do multiple times a week and keep for a lifetime.
With our times shifting, Stephanie has transitioned from in person teaching to virtual teaching. Over the years, Stephanie has had the opportunity to hold classes in various settings and environments, so this latest online format is just another way she can reach others. Stephanie is excited and dedicated to helping others to continue to learn, grow, and to never stop moving! She's also looking forward to being apart of Balance Webster's first 200hr Virtual Teacher Training, assisting with fabulous lead trainer, MJ Waddell.
As of August 2019, Stephanie moved out west and currently lives in Eugene, Oregon. She is an avid hiker, traveler and nature lover. She finds both adventure and solace within Mother Nature and uses it as inspiration both in her art and her teachings. When exploring her camera is always with her as photography is a hobby, passion and her medium for her work. Stephanie too, is quite the animal lover so her cat Bodhi often is one of her subiects.
