Besides the obvious blissful reasons, massage is an excellent way to maintain your entire body and mind! In addition to circulatory benefits and easing stiffness, aches and moderate to severe pain, a massage also helps to improve your mood, mental health and anxiety levels.
I attended Balance’s 200 hour yoga teacher training in 2015 and absolutely love the atmosphere Erica and the Balance family create. The nurturing environment encourages self-care and mindfulness within one’s yoga practice as well as off the mat in daily life. Massage and yoga go hand in hand and I am so happy to bring this to the table for all to experience.
How would you describe your work?
The modalities of massage I learned about at the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, NY includes, but is not limited to: Shiatsu, sports massage, reflexology, prenatal massage, connective tissue therapy (deep tissue), Swedish, chair massage, neuromuscular therapy, energy palpation, and hydrotherapy.
Unless specified otherwise by the client, I incorporate multiple modalities (and usually a dash of aromatherapy) into a signature session to help the client understand what is going on in their body and how to use self-care at home to better facilitate the work done in session. The 200-hour yoga teacher training with the Balance family has also given me a stronger knowledge of specific yoga poses that can help with each client’s unique situation.
What don’t we know about you?
I have wanted to be a massage therapist since I was 13 years old, when I was first introduced to yoga as an alternative to pharmaceuticals. Before attending FLSM I studied at SUNY Purchase where I was the teacher’s assistant in a circus skills course that was part of the physical education curriculum. My focus was on aerial apparatuses of all kinds (silks, trapeze and lyra, an aerial hoop) as well as partnered acrobatics, juggling, unicycle riding. I also have a strong passion for acro yoga and hope one day to combine my skills and teach aerial yoga.
